December 2002 “Renting Equipment is Cheaper than Buying It”

Everything seems to indicate that the culture of renting computer and telecommunications equipment (and all types of moveable property) is quickly becoming an ever-more common activity in Mexico, due in great part to the current economic climate.

According to the Mexican Society of Financial Lessors [Sociedad Mexicana de Arrendadoras Financieras] (AMAF), close to 30% of the operating lease market in the country is for assets related to the information technology (IT) industry. “In addition to the economic situation in the country, the reason why I think the culture of leasing technology is growing is due to the nature of this sector: it requires constant and never-ending upgrades”, said Manuel Sanz, Commercial Director of CSI Leasing México.

Manuel Sanz also highlighted that banking leases that allow customers to purchase the equipment are not attractive to the IT market, since a company, on average, needs to replace its equipment every two years.

“Leasing allows for investments to be more carefully planned”
